Formed in 2004 by singer/guitarist Saskia van der Giessen, the Amsterdam-based art-punk band Labasheeda blend poppy melodies with bursts of noise and distorted violin.
After the release of their well-received first record Charity Box (2006), bassist David Jackson left the band, while Arne Wolfswinkel joined as a second guitar player. In this line-up Labasheeda recorded a 10"/CD-EP, titled A Few of a Population (2009).
The band turned into a four-piece when Thanos Fiotadis (bass) and Dyan Ramekers (drums) became the new rhythm section. The band released a 7", Circle, followed in 2010 by their second LP/CD, The Twilight State, which again received enthusiastic reviews.
Labasheeda, nowadays a trio again, often venture onto foreign soil and continue to tour through Europe and Canada.
In 2012 the band released the LP Castfat Shadows and a split 7" with Wavezero. Labasheeda is currently working on new material and will do a UK tour in April 2013.
